Introducing Vintage Vinyls!

I am so excited to announce that the Vintage Vinyls Quilt is available in my shop! Vintage Vinyls was born from my love of live music and collecting vinyl records (including vintage).

I have loved music since I was a kid. My parents loved music and introduced us to so many great artists. My dad played guitar and we would sit on the bed with him and sing Creedence Clearwater Revival and Cat Stevens. Later on in life, my parents hosted house concerts with Texas bands. It was so fun to have such an intimate experience with music.

My husband and I love going to concerts and it has been a big part of our relationship from ACL Festivals to SXSW, to small local venues to traveling across the country to see our favorite band.

The absence of live music has been a hit to my soul. And this is how Vintage Vinyls came about. As a tribute to music and to how it feels to slow down and listen to an entire album on a Saturday morning.

Vintage Vinyls has three options: Improv Throw, Standard Throw and Baby. With so many options, you can really make this quilt anything you want it to be!

One more note: Don’t be afraid of curves! There is a link within the PDF to video tutorials, and check back next week for a blog.

Improv Throw:

I am partial the improv throw, my original design and what the cover is based on this version. It allows the most flexibility with the record blocks. What I love is that you make a slightly smaller version of the full record and then you get to trim the block to how little or much you want the record coming out of the sleeve. It gives some variety to the quilt! It also does require the most half circle assemblies but they do go quickly.

This Improv version was made with Kona Cottons: Clover, Grellow, Bone and Black. The backing is Rashida Coleman Hale for Ruby Star Society’s Pop! And the binding is Alexia Marcelle Abegg for Ruby Star Society- Add it Up in Black and Gold.

Quilting

The Improv Throw and Baby sizze are both handquilted using DMC Embroidery Thread Perle Cotton #8.

Standard Throw

The Standard Throw is just like the improv except you are only making half records for the blocks assembled with a sleeve. There are less curves to make and less matching of seams. But you still get the same fun look of the original Vintage Vinyls Quilt!

Baby Quilt

The baby quilt takes a couple of the elements from the Standard Throw. You are only making half circles with the sleeves, and only making the Tube Stripe Half Square Triangles. It’s the perfect quilt for the new music lover! And would make a great wall hanging too!

Tester Parade:

I could not have done this without my amazing testers! Their versions show just how versatile and fun this quilt can be! Many had never even sewed curves before and they did it, and did it well!

Thank you so much for taking the time to learn more about Vintage Vinyls Quilt! Remember to tag @HouseofVinesStudio and #VintageVinylsQuilt when you make your version!

Thank you!
